Summer Solstice and Sam's Birthday

Today we both slept until almost 9:00am. We quckly got ready and walked to our "son's" house. The children and Martina were going to a party, and Tom was staying with us. We had a light breakfast, chatted with Tom, and then had lunch at one of his favorite places, Gallo Nero. It was an easy walk their home, and the staff obviously knew Tom well. The meal was superb from start to finish. Our server, Bodo, was charming and funny as was our host son Tom.

We started with an elegant antipasto.
Here is our charming server preparing a really delicious entree using a wheel of parmesan cheese as the bowl.  The entree included pasta, parmesan cheese, mushrooms, and truffle shavings.  Superb.
A close-up of the bowl.
Bob had dorado, the fish mentioned in Life of Pi (which he chose because of that reference!).
The actual truffle dish.

Desserts! Orange tiramisu
Panna cotta.
And gratis grappa to finish the meal!

It was also Sam's 36th birthday. Tom's mother had made a photo album for his 40th birthday, and I found the perfect picture to post to commemorate this bittersweet day.

We spent the afternoon playing with the children and chatting with Tom and Martina. Bob and the boys played more foosball, and we had strawberries, chocolate, and espresso.

We had a light dinner and made it to bed before 9:00pm
